Smooth Jazz 247 was launched in June 2011. It was designed to be a replacement for the
terrestrial FM smooth jazz stations in the USA that were so popular in the years leading up
to that point. By the time the station was launched, most of those FM stations had gone or
flipped formats. We believe that there are millions of people that love smooth jazz and still
want a smooth jazz station to tune in to. Most web radio channels provide a good supply of
non-stop music, but it was felt that a lot of people would enjoy a little presenter dialogue
along with it too.
The station was the brainchild of Jimi King, who fell in love with the smooth jazz genre
whilst on holiday in Florida in 1998. In early 2001 JK started his own online smooth jazz
station through Live365 in the USA. In 2004 he was hired by US web broadcaster Digitally
Imported, to programme what became several smooth jazz stations for their SKY fm
network, and ultimately their Jazz Radio network, which was born out of the success of
these and other jazz spin-off genres. JK eventually took over complete control of Smooth
Jazz 24/7. But not before it had become established in the UK, through the Digitally
Imported channels, as well as through Live365.
By 2016, JK & DI had parted company, and Smooth Jazz 24/7 continued through Live365.
Where it still exists to this day. In 2022 the station had become so popular here that
Live365 could no longer afford to include it in their UK licensing agreements, so it
disppeared from UK radio streams for a period of almost 4 years.
And now thanks to local DAB licensing, it’s back on the airwaves in South London with an
Internet stream alongside. If you were a fan before, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s still
the same sublime mix of instrumental smooth jazz.
It’s perfect company while you work, or anything else that you might be doing.
Over the years a number of well known smooth jazz artists have presented guest shows for
us, including Dave Koz, Brian Culbertson, Euge Groove, Peter White, Harvey Mason, Marc
Antoine, Nick Colionne, Oli Silk, David Benoit, Chuck Loeb, Paul Brown, Jeff Kashiwa,
Brian Simpson & Cindy Bradley.
We always have been, and still are, keeping the smooth jazz flowing!
